Features / Functions
| IT Works®
simplifies and automates many complex and tedious
tasks associated with managing computers in a networked
environment.
|
IT Works®
delivers Managed Desktop functionality in six areas
based on a hierarchy inheritance model.
|
Hierarchical Inheritance Model Benefits:
- Standardization and easy updates/configurations reduce
much administrative time and costs for desktop management.
- Desktops perform with higher reliability and availability
since they operate with optimum software, configurations
and settings.
- End users are not concerned with desktop software, settings
or upkeep, as this is handled for them automatically.

Deployment of Operating Systems and Applications
Benefits:
- Since this is the most time-consuming (and costly) administrative
task, customers quickly realize ROI on this feature alone.
- Users are seldom interrupted for software deployments;
these activities can be scheduled to take place during nighttime
hours.
- Desktops perform with higher reliability and availability
since they will always operate with optimum software, configurations
and settings.

Migration of Operating Systems and Applications
Benefits:
- Organizations no longer need to postpone deployment of
new technologies because of time constraints and inconvenience.
- Administrators are not consumed with software migrations.
Their saved time can be spent elsewhere.
- End users can use the latest technologies without the
downtime and inconvenience normally associated with migrations.

Automated Hardware Additions and Replacements
Benefits:
- Fast and easy computer additions and replacements
- Less administrative time required for initial setup and
installation means reduced costs
- End users are up and running much faster, improving their
productivity

Enhanced Security/Locked desktops Benefits:
- Enhanced security of operating systems and applications
- Easy management of security policies and permissions means
more time for administrators to use elsewhere

Disaster Recovery Benefits:
- Users can be confident in the integrity of their applications
and data.
- Users are not interrupted for long periods while their
desktops are being repaired or replaced
- Administrators spend much less time troubleshooting or
rebuilding failed desktops

Asset Inventory Management Benefits:
- Reduced time needed to inventory and analyze IT assets
- Asset inventories are always accurate
- This complete asset inventory helps in planning, audits
and management of service agreements and software licenses
- This information ensures that the environments stability
and success is not dependent on one or two key individuals

Integrated Help Desk Benefits:
- Administrators spend less time documenting and tracking
end user calls and requests.
- End users receive faster, better service from IT when
problems occur.
- Improved productivity of administrators and end users
means reduced costs.
- Improved IT communications with end users results in a
more satisfied user community.

Remote Control and Remote Management Benefits:
- Far fewer desktop problems occur due to IT
Works® desktop lockdown and Remote Management.
- Administrators can easily troubleshoot problems from any
point on the network.
- Administrative travel time and costs are greatly reduced
or eliminated.
- End users are not interrupted for problem identification
and resolution.

"Walk Up and Use" Desktops Benefits:
- End users can easily do their work from any points on
the network, without taking their computers with them
- Regardless of where they logon to the network, end users
receive consistent services and behavior from the computers
they use
Operating System Installation and Migration
The IT Works® hierarchy inheritance
model greatly simplifies OS deployment and migration, and
significantly reduces the time required to complete installation
or migration. System Management Technologies recommends a
native install of the chosen operating system rather than
an image solution for two reasons. First, allowing the operating
system to auto-discover OEM components is a more reliable
process than imaging (zero image maintenance and OEM hardware
differences); second, all image solutions require additional
integration of applications and settings before end user delivery.

Application Software Installation and
Migration
Deploying, managing, and migrating application software
is the largest part of Desktop Management and provides the
greatest opportunity for timesavings. The IT Works®
class hierarchy inheritance model greatly simplifies the application
software deployment and migration effort and also significantly
reduces the time required to complete the install or migration.

Security Administration
IT Works® automates the installation
of the operating system, hardware components and software
applications. Maintaining these configurations is essential
in controlling support services and Total Cost of Ownership
to provide an acceptable rate of return to the organization.
IT Works® uses policies and
permissions to create user environments which allow only Read
and Execute access to the file system and computer registry.
Policies add additional features including the ability to
limit access to certain system areas like the control panel,
and how application settings have been configured, e.g., default
user path for saving Office documents.

Help Desk
IT Works® includes a complete
Help Desk Management system. An integral part of computer
management is the ability to capture service requests from
users and project management. IT Works®
combines these features into one user interface called ManagER.
Users and computers have separate views and are fully integrated
with Active Directory or NT Domains.

Disaster Recovery
Disaster Recovery is often overlooked or allocated fewer
resources by IT organizations due, in part, to the uncertainty
of when a disaster will occur. The IT Works®
methodology for disaster recovery provides a fast and easy
recovery path for getting end users back online.

Inventory/Asset Management
IT Works® includes a complete
Inventory/Asset Management system. An critical part of effective
computer management is the ability to document the hardware
and software deployed. With IT Works®
your IT staff will know exactly what hardware and software
is currently deployed and what was deployed in the past.
